​About YOSA International

 

​​​​​YOSA International is a coalition of international and Sierra Leone based YOSA alumni associations, Yengema Secondary School alumni, ex-teachers, current teachers, the school's administration, friends of the school, local  councillors, and the Diocese of Kenema - working in partnership to advance, support and rehabilitate learning and wellbeing at the school. ​​

 

Coalition members are based in Sierra Leone, USA, UK, South Africa, Kenya, the EU and Canada, and our partners SLIP are based in Ireland.

 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

 

 

 

Our Objectives

 

  • ​Engage with former students, teachers and friends of the school and increase membership of the association.

  • Engage in programmes and activities that create institutional pride in the school and that serve to develop and enhance the school’s public image.​

  • Advance education and raise standards of education, teaching and achievement at the school.

  • Engage with Bishops, local Pastors, Spiritans, Christian Brothers with a challenge to reassert meaningful Church patronage, support and oversight of schools such as YSS.

  • ​Promote gender and social equality at the school, to remove or reduce barriers to education, especially for girls.

  • ​Promote good governance, leadership and management of YSS.

  • ​Provide support and resources for the rehabilitation and development of the school’s infrastructure, and the development of educational services

  • ​Promote parental and community involvement in the school, and to promote community involvement and outreach by the school

  • ​Establish and encourage partnerships between the school and schools in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the rest of the EU

  • ​Promote teaching of the Kono culture, history and language, and other ethnic groups’ culture, history and languages at the school to enhance community cohesion.
